Training/showing schedule for ponies:
Yearlings and
two-year olds show on the line and attend schooling shows as spectators only.
Three-year olds show
on the line as well as being ridden on the flat in such divisions as Pleasure
and Young Ponies Under Saddle. This class is open to VPBA ponies four
years of age and younger; and must be ridden by a junior. (Jump training
continues at home.)
Four-year olds
continue to compete in the Young Ponies Under Saddle as well as in the Virginia Bred Performance Division consisting of a hack and
model, and two jumping classes.
Five-year olds are
ready to show in the Green Division, with three prior years of horse showing.
Six-year olds fully
ready to be competitive in all pony divisions.
The young ponies are not campaigned
or pushed for year-end awards. The goal is to produce happy
ponies who are wonderful at their jobs.
